  1. Make sure you are wearing your trays for 22 hours per day! If you don’t wear your trays, your Invisalign treatment will go off track and your next tray might not fit properly. Make sure you are following the treatment plan properly and take your aligners out to eat or drink.
  2. Use chewies! Your trays can be tight when you first change them, so using chewies can help to ensure they are seated properly on your teeth.
  3. Keep your trays clean with cleaning crystals. Wearing them for 22 hours a day can make your trays build up a film and can stain. Make sure you are cleaning them regularly with a toothbrush and water. You can also use the cleaning crystals provided to keep your trays clean, clear and discreet! If you run out of cleaning crystals, we sell them in practice or you can order them online here
  4. Make sure you are seeing your dentist regularly for tray changes and to ensure your treatment is on track. If anything isn’t looking as it should, we can make changes quickly to get you back on track.
  5. Make sure you are removing your trays to eat and drink! Your trays will easily stain if you consume food or drink while wearing them. This looks bad but is also bad for your gums and teeth, as the sugars in food and drink get trapped against your teeth. Remove your trays to eat or drink and ensure you are brushing your teeth regularly.
  6. Don’t smoke while wearing your trays. In fact, try and stop completely! Clinicians will always advise you to stop smoking if you can, as it is bad for your health in so many ways. There are lots of support options available that we can signpost you to if you are looking to stop smoking. Just ask one of our team, or check out the Yorkshire NHS support here
  7. Switch aligners before you go to sleep to bypass any of the uncomfortable period when you move to your next tray! We find that patients don’t describe Invisalign as painful, but it can be a bit uncomfortable when you first change your trays.
  8. Keep your old aligners! Don’t throw them away- you never know if you might need them! Keep them in the numbered pouch they come in and try to keep them for the length of your treatment.
  9. Take pictures! Our clinicians will take pictures throughout your treatment, but it’s great to have your own pictures so you can monitor your own progress. You see your teeth every day so you get used to the changes happening. Comparing two pictures from several weeks apart can really highlight to you the progress you have made.
  10. Wear your aligners once your Invisalign is complete. Make sure you are wearing your retainers as recommended by your dentist once your treatment is complete. Your teeth can move back if you do not wear your retainers. After you have gone through your Invisalign treatment you want to be able to show your beautiful smile off, not have more Invisalign put on!
