Oral Surgery
What is Oral Surgery?
Oral surgery encompasses surgical dental procedures that go beyond routine dentistry. At Joseph Family Dental, we offer advanced oral surgery treatments under the expert care of Consultant Oral Surgeon Dr Abdurahman El-Awa, including wisdom tooth removal, surgical extractions, bone grafting, soft tissue biopsies and more. These treatments are ideal for patients who require more complex treatments that cannot be carried out by general dental practitioners, and where the treatment might normally be referred to a hospital.

Why Choose Oral Surgery With Us?
· Expert Consultant Care: You will be treated by Dr Abdurahman El-Awa, a highly experienced Consultant Oral Surgeon with a calm, patient chair-side manner.
· Comprehensive & Specialist Service: Dr El-Awa has a special interest in dental implants, bone grafting, sinus surgery and difficult extractions.
· Avoid Long NHS Waits: Hospital waiting lists for oral surgery can be very long (often up to 18 months). Choosing private oral surgery through us means much shorter waiting times, so you can get treated when you need it.
· Comfort & Support: For nervous patients, sedation options are available so that more complex surgery can be handled in a safe, calm environment. Dr El-Awa is experienced in providing sedation.
Treatments We Offer
Here are some of the oral surgery services available:
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Including removal of impacted or partially erupted teeth.
Surgical Extractions
For teeth that are broken, deeply embedded, or otherwise difficult to remove safely with a standard extraction.
Dental Implants & Bone Grafting
If you are missing teeth or lack sufficient bone for an implant, Dr El-Awa can provide implant surgery, bone grafting (augmenting bone), and sinus lifts as needed.
Soft-tissue biopsies
Removal of non-cancerous lumps or growths in the mouth.
The Treatment Process
01. Consultation
You will meet with Dr El-Awa for a detailed assessment. He will review your medical and dental history, take any necessary x-rays or 3D scans, and explain your treatment options.
02. Treatment Planning
Based on the assessment, a bespoke surgical plan is developed. For implants, this may include bone graft planning; for extractions, a surgical technique will be chosen to minimise trauma.
03. Procedure Appointment(s)
The surgery is carried out in a safe, clinical setting. Sedation or local anaesthetic will be used as needed, and Dr El-Awa utilises his specialist training to ensure the procedure is as smooth and comfortable as possible.
04. Aftercare & Recovery
We’ll give you clear aftercare guidance, pain management advice, and follow-up appointments to ensure your healing is going well.
05. Restorative Phase (if needed)
For implant treatments, following healing, we will move on to the restorative stage (placing abutments and crowns) to complete your new, functional tooth.
