Dental Crowns

What is The Treatment?

A crown is a covering for a tooth that needs some structural support or that needs to look more like a tooth again. Crowns come in different shapes and colours to match your tooth perfectly.

If a tooth has discoloured, it may be necessary to cover it with a crown to disguise the discolouration. If a tooth is weak either because it has broken down due to a large filling or  root canal treatment, a crown may be required for structural support to give it a chance of lasting for longer.

Crowns can be tooth-coloured or made from a cast metal; appearing silver or gold in colour. The options for a tooth will be discussed with you prior to preparing the tooth.

Why Choose Us?

We work closely alongside skilled lab technicians using the latest in ceramic technology to achieve the perfect result that will meet your needs. A large degree of planning following the consultation stage is undertaken prior to any crown case to make sure you will be proud of your smile for years to come.

The Treatment Process

01. Consultation

We will discuss your areas of concern and desired treatment outcomes, as well as taking a digital scan of your teeth and x-rays. You can ask any questions you have, and your clinician will begin to form a plan for your treatment.

02. Treatment Planning

For large crown cases, involving multiple teeth, your dentist will plan your treatment with you to ensure you are happy. In some cases, your clinician will plan your case with dental technicians using digital smile planning software. If you are wanting any other treatment, such as teeth whitening, we will plan the timeline of your treatment. Whitening will need to be done before your crowns are made.

03. Fit

At this appointment, your dentist will fit your new crowns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental crowns are available in metal, as well as highly aesthetic, tooth-coloured materials (such as zirconia and Emax). The stronger the material the crown is made from, the thinner it can be and therefore less tooth tissue can be removed. Zirconia is a very strong material, and can therefore be made into a thin crown which maintains the tooth structure. Metal crowns can also be made into thin crowns, but give an unnatural look as they are not tooth coloured. Emax are highly aesthetic, and bond well to teeth so are great for veneers. Prices for the different types of crowns varies, from £590 for a silver crown, to £790 for a highly aesthetic crown.
